While my body may not be bikini-clad and poolside-ready, or sporting the great tan I’d envisioned having by this Memorial Day Weekend, at least my iPhone apps are in great shape and ready to hit the road, thanks to much well thought-out preparation.
The big weekend starts tomorrow and if you haven’t booked a place yet, or think every room is taken, download Airbnb (free) right now and you’ll find just what you’re looking for. This global network of accommodations spans virtually anywhere in the world and offers an experience better than a hotel. You can rent from real people in 19,732 cities in 192 countries. Filter your search to find a place in the Top 40 Picks, Life’s A Beach, Oui Oui Paris or my favorite, Glamping, along with a host of other categories. Hop to it!
Next, you’ll want to make sure you have your Yelp app packed (also free) for good recommendations while you’re on the road. After trying out several apps to find great restaurants, I came back to Yelp which won hands down. Yelp is the top resource for honest-to-goodness restaurant reviews from customers as well as for shopping, nightlife, local services, hotels and events. I always use this app locally, but have come to appreciate it even more when traveling.
Lastly, if you have kids or even if you don’t, get goby (free) and create your own adventure. Love this app as it tells you what’s cool by the week, by location, and by user recommendations. So wherever you are, you can choose things to do, or events happening around you and you have all the info at your fingertips.
